2016 Year in Review | Destination Wedding Photographer

A destination wedding photographer often gets just a tiny break from the year’s weddings at the beginning of each year. We like to use that time to tie up any loose ends from the previous year, plan for the upcoming year, catch up on a few of our favorite shows, and maybe get in a bit of skiing 🙂 As we are about to jump into an insane and wonderful 2017, we thought we would take just a moment to think back on some the amazing places we saw in 2016.

It’s so interesting, the way that locations flow year to year for a destination wedding photographer. Some years we never see the same airport twice, and some years we fly into the same airport (Denver!) over and over again, but every wedding is still in a completely different location! The unpredictability is what makes it such a wonderful adventure! 2016 was the year of DC road trips, and we loved every minute of it. Of course, DC isn’t the only place we visited, but it played such a prominent part that it gets a double mention in this little round up 🙂

Amy & Trent – Pismo Beach, CA

Favorite place we photographed – On the rocks by the ocean….even though a giant wave came in and almost swept us off to sea!

Best place to grab lunch – Hoagies! Make sure you try the “Dirty Bird”!

Fun fact – Ian and his lovely wife Nicole drove from L.A. to Pismo on the pacific coast highway the week prior to this wedding!

Elise & Jay – St Petersburg, FL

Favorite place we photographed – Museum of Fine Arts. We had the opportunity to photograph our couple amidst gorgeous artwork. It was challenging, and super exciting!

Best place to grab a drink – Fresco’s Waterfront Bistro – the view was as amazing as the beer was 🙂

Fun fact – Ian had a super fun road trip partner for this wedding…his dad!

Alice & Matt – Georgetown, Washington D.C.

Favorite place we photographed – The streets of Georgetown are a photographic paradise. You truly cannot go wrong, no matter which way you turn!

Best place to grab a drink – We loved the rooftop terrace at Rebellion! Their beer and bourbon selection was amazing, and the “Death by Cheese Burger” was worth driving back for!

Fun fact – We saw Alice & Matt (along with countless other past wedding friends) at 3 different weddings in 2016, and we loved them a little bit more every time:)

Katherine Ann & Nick – Oxford, MD

Favorite place we photographed – This wedding was all about boats…particularly for Ian. He LOVES sailboats and the sailing culture, so he was in heaven pretty much everywhere he turned. Anywhere there were boats, that was our favorite place to shoot on this trip 🙂

Best place to grab a drink – at Nick’s parents house! Seriously, these guys set up an amazing bourbon bar for after the rehearsal dinner…good stuff! We love bourbon around here, so it was exciting to share that with fun new friends.

Fun fact – Ian used AirBnB to find a sailboat to stay on while in town for this wedding weekend!

Katie & Ryan – Washington, D.C.

Favorite place we photographed – Cherry Hill Farm was their reception venue, and there were so many beautiful places to photograph both there, and at the park across the street.

Best place to grab a drink – We loved the posh atmosphere at Off the Record, and their food and drink selection was fantastic!

Fun fact – Ian ended up playing chauffeur and driving Katie and Ryan to their afterparty 🙂
