When we headed out for this Wisconsin wedding to photograph, I could not wait to explore the town. When it comes to destination weddings, there are a few things we always do. One of those is to arrive at least a day early to scout and check out the surroundings. And we immediately found a spot I loved.
See, before we leave, one thing I never do is look at Pinterest or blogs of the venue for inspiration. Ever. To me, that’s taking away the beauty of a location, and can influence where we choose to shoot. That, in my opinion, is the art of it. To go out, explore, and find the inspiration for the couple. That’s what I love about photographing weddings in different locations. It’s a new town, a new culture, and the best way to understand it is to immerse yourself in it. And it is my job to capture it.
Generally, when I find a spot I am drawn to, I have a vision in my head as to how I see the final image. And to just keep it real… sometimes it works out beautifully, and sometimes not so much. We plan for the lighting, the weather, and how it relates to the time we will have a few moments away to capture the couple. And then… sometimes, the magic happens. I get what I had envisioned, and more.
With this Wisconsin wedding, this is the spot… {thank you to Amber Holritz for capturing these behind the scenes images!}
Thankfully, this couple was all for it. Love when that happens. Thank you Anna + Ryan 😉
This is the image I had in my head when scouting locations….
And this is what I did not expect. The lighting just worked, the rain was about to roll in, and the creative inside me just starting clicking… and so did my camera.
