For our last wedding, we had the opportunity to spend some time in a brand new place, the lovely and secluded Catskills, NY. We were in a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere, and it was refreshing to experience the quaintness and seclusion of that particular corner of the world. For the wedding we are going to share today, we were at the beautiful Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head, and the difference in the two weddings represents one of our favorite things about being a destination wedding photographer: we have the opportunity to capture the love of so many different types of amazing people… in so many types of amazing locations. Big cities, tiny towns, gorgeous resorts on cute little islands…every wedding is an adventure.
Hilton Head is not a new location for us. We had spent quite a bit of time in nearby Charleston and Savannah in the past, as well as enjoying some time on Hilton Head, but this was our first wedding in Hilton Head, and our first visit to the Sonesta Resort.
It did not disappoint.
A few random thoughts about Hilton Head:
- There’s a fantastic little beachside bar that is almost impossible to get to…but completely worth it to figure it out. You have to work for it 😉
- There are so many trees on this island, even in the parking lots, that we basically got lost while parking the car at the grocery store! (Trust me, there were that many trees. Not even kidding.)
- You should watch where you walk because…alligators. They just chill out in what basically looked like peoples backyards. The sight can be unsettling, to say the least.
Working as a destination wedding photographer, we have the opportunity to meet and work with so many amazing wedding vendors…but every once in awhile, we get the chance to work with people we already know and love. This wedding was a great example of that, as we were able to work with some of the amazing vendors from Asheville, our hometown. We might be the tiniest bit biased, but we think Nicole Riley (Ian’s lovely wife!) and her team at Verge Events are the most badass planners out there;) so it’s always a win when we get to collaborate! (Plus, it makes hanging out on our off time way more fun!)
Okay…on to Callie and Nick’s wedding! Something that we find to be lovely about working at a resort like Sonesta, is that generally everything we need to do is all on the same property. This is generally a recipe for a logistically successful day…and we have all of the important parts of the day within walking distance.
While the girls were getting ready in one room…
(always exciting when a makeup artist brings in lighting!! makes things super fun for us to shoot!)
The boys were getting ready in another room… just an elevator ride away. (Let’s take a moment to praise Nick’s style here…Those shoes are to die for!!)
We had scouted around the property, and after much deliberation about the myriad of lovely options for our first look location, we choose this cute little bridge…again, just an elevator ride and a short walk away. It’s always nice when the beautiful choice is also a convenient one.
Love the pops of color in Callie and Nick’s details!
We took a quick walk around the property and grabbed a few images…we were saving our beachfront time for sunset…but with a location this lush, you have to indulge in a quick walkabout 😉
After a short cool down inside, it was time for the ceremony! The ceremony site was absolutely stunning…the florals were on point!
Callie’s entrance with her father was dramatic and beautiful.
Loved this sand ceremony…
It’s always fun when there’s a sweet hiding spot behind the couple…this was a fun vantage point for the first kiss!
Married!
Ceremony ends…short walk…reception begins. Seamless. Love it.
How amazing is this sea glass floral wall? Beth from Studio Flora Diva seriously rocked this one!
(omg, how cute are these watercolors of Callie and Nick’s puppies. goodness, Dear Sarah Design certainly knocked these out of the park!)
Love when we get to shoot the first dances in gorgeous natural light!
Formalities out of the way… it was finally time for our walk on the beach 😉 Which, once again, thanks to the ease of being on a resort…was literally just a few steps away.
The Universe was definitely on our team this particularly wedding day… the sunset was the stuff of dreams 😉
Sunset walk over…party time begins.
It was a beautiful day…and a super fun night.
Congratulations Callie and Nick! Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your wedding day!
As always, thanks to the amazing team that made this wedding come together so seamlessly!
